The metallic eye is today’s trend, but fret not if you are yet to perfect it. Here’s our go-to guide on how to get a brilliant look.
Step 1. Decide on your colour palette. An easy trick is to match it to your hair and eye colour: if you’re blonde, go for a golden colour; if brunette, metallic brown looks awesome. Then pick another to go with your eyes. This can be either matchy or complementary. (If you have green eyes for example, the complement is purple, pink or red.)
Step 2. Prep your eyelids. A light exfoliation with an exfoliator glove will remove any dead skin cells without the risk of getting exfoliator grains in your eyes (not fun!).
Step 3. Start with an eyeshadow primer. We can’t stress this step enough, especially if you want the look to last all day… and night.
Step 4. Grab a densely bristled brush and run it across your first colour. This will be the darker of your two shades. If you’re looking to get a really intense application, you can slightly dampen the brush for extra pigment.Run the brush across your eyelid, making sure not to go to high. (While some eyeshadows look awesome going all the way to your brows, metallics are best kept to the lids.)Once you have a good base colour, start applying the second colour. This should start about halfway up your eyelid, and only go ever so slightly above it.
Step 4. With a smaller brush, repeat the process under your lower lash line. This line should be much more subtle and fine. We recommend erring on the side of ‘less is more’.
Step 5. For the finishing touch, grab your favourite mascara. Classic black works well, but if you can get your hands on a complementary metallic shade, go for it! You can also add some eyeliner to make your eyes really pop, and opt for a light eyeshadow or highlighter to accentuate your brow bones.
