If you are in Australia, you'll know what is happening on Tuesday. It might be the race that stops the nation, but it also divides the nation. Do you know where you stand on the Melbourne Cup?
When looking for direction, particularly on cultural trends and progressive thinking, you can do worse than checking out what your local bearded creators-of-craft are up to. And no, we don’t mean Grandma at the neighbourhood haberdashery store; we are, of course, talking about our local craft brewers.
As it happens, they’re ahead of the game once again, with our friends at Wayward Brewing Co championing this month’s cause celebre, Nup to the Cup.
With an estimated 650 million people around the world holding on to their hats on the first Tuesday in November, the cool crew at Wayward are saying 'no'. And we wholeheartedly agree. (The horses were not available for comment, but we think it’s fair to say if they had a penchant for a pint, they’d probably endorse this move.)
With proceeds from the sale of the Wayward Everday Ale going to WIRES Australian wildlife rescue organisation, and Vejoes food truck serving animal-free snacks out the front, the vegan collective is on board. Kudos to all of them for celebrating animals in the right way.
So if the cup isn’t for you, and we are pretty sure it won't be, think about heading to Camperdown in Sydney’s Inner West this Tuesday and placing a bet that these guys are, once again, at the front of the pack. Follow us on the day over on our instragram and @ us to tell us what’s going on in your neighbourhood to say 'nup' to the cup.

And if you, like us, feel particularly strongly about horse racing, consider supporting a horse rescue charity, like Horse Rescue Australia, or Save a Horse Australia. You can support with your time through volunteering, with donations, with fundraising or even simply by spreading the word.
